spoke to several people in "zone a" - the mandatory evacuation area by the river - none of them intend to do anything but wait out the storm inside "zone a".
all of these people live in the lower east side and some of them are old enough to remember parts of that neighborhood were declared "most dangerous block on earth" based on the murder rates.
i sincerely hope, for all my neighbors in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island that Irene proves to be another storm that just dumps alot of water on the city, with little property damage, really minor injuries, and no loss of life. streets flooded, roofs leaking, and subway lines closed - all noise but little actual damage. we'll know soon.

HOWARD DEAN'S SQUEAL

UK's Daily Mail sez: "To round out the outrage, in its piece on the Newsbusters reaction, the website mediaite.com runs the Bachmann crazy eyes photo next to one of serial killer and serious 'crazy eyes' Charles Manson."

AFTER THE BRINK

as we're now officially heading "down the tubes" cannot think of a more appropriate and timely voice to express the outrage of the masses than the this man...

tonight, i am honored and humbled to share a bit of the spotlight with Professor Irwin Cory, the World's Foremost Authority, and at 92 years, a veteran progressive voice (and according to me, GOD HIMSELF).
tune in to Shannon Taylor's "The Conversation" tonight Tuesday, August 2nd at 7pm eastern time - airs on Manhattan on Time-Warner Cable channel 56, RCN cable channel 83, and Verizion channel 34.
(if you are not in Manhattan and feel lucky, try mnn.org at 7pm eastern - click on "watch live MNN 2" or at this link.)

HOSTAGE TAKING WORKS

worked for John Boehner and the Tea Party who took the entire nation hostage - and won!

the budget deal announced tonight is a bust for everybody - and won't help our vaulted "AAA credit rating" either because it fails to address any of the underlying issues or reasons as to why we are at this crisis point to begin with.

massive debt began to accumulate because of multiple wars and massive tax cuts for corporations and the very wealthy. (remember, when Bush took office in 2001, there was a budget surplus - this problem literally did not exist.)

hostage-takers Boehner (and the Teabaggers for that matter) changed the debate from "JOBS" (something everybody understands) to "DEBT CEILING" (so huge and complex i doubt some economics professors can even grasp it).

with this so-called "deal" the President announced "the lowest level of domestic spending since Dwight Eisenhower was president".

(that's pre-Cousin Brucie, boomers. when Eisenhower left office fifty years ago, a new Chevrolet cost $1,800, a dozen eggs cost 52 cents, sirloin steak was 89 cents a pound, the average household income was $7,000 a year and a telegraph was the most efficient way of conveying a message.)

two days before Dwight Eisenhower left office, the former Five-Star General left us a little message about how his former boss, the US Military, might just ruin our democracy.

we didn't listen to Dwight Eisenhower.

therefore, welcome to Austerity 2012!
